Sweets For Your Sweetie

Valentine's Day has always been one of my favorite holidays.  I love the romantic dinners, flowers, and cards...but my favorite part is without a doubt eating as many sweets as my heart desires for the entire day!  My love for this day and all of the sweets that go along with it began when I was younger.  My mom would bake my brother and I our own massive cookie hearts in our favorite type of dough, and it made me look forward to the holiday every year.  Now that I'm older, I like to bake all the people that are special to me something delicious to carry on the tradition for Valentine's Day.  I promise my Italian Buckeyes and Nutella Heart Cookies are better than any storebought chocolates!

When I first started dating Howie in Italy, I had no idea what to do for him for Valentine's Day.  I couldn't find the ingredients for any of my usual desserts, and couldn't find a chocolate shop in Firenze.  After hearing everybody talk about how much they missed peanut butter and Reese's cups, I decided to figure out how to make homemade buckeyes!  To put an Italian twist on an Ohio recipe, I add a little bit of Nutella to the middle.  Perfetto!

Despite the heart shape, the next cookie recipe actually wasn't invented for Valentine's Day, but for Christmas last year when I was really craving Italian cookies and had lots of time to bake.  I think they're perfect for this holiday though!  Actually, anything with Nutella is acceptable any day of the year in my books...
