Old World Wednesday at Prosperity Social Club

Some people say Wednesday is their least favorite day of the week.  I say there's no reason to have a bad day of the week, so I go to Prosperity Social Club in Tremont for tasty food, Polish beer, and some good old Polka music.  That's right, every hump day from 6-9pm is Old World Wednesday, 3 full hours dedicated to celebrating Cleveland's Polish heritage.  As soon as you walk past the beautiful stone exterior and through the 1920's era wood door, any worries on your mind are instantly replaced by the sounds of the accordion and sights of people of all ages enjoying themselves in a room that has probably not changed for at least 60 years (besides the 13" TV above the bar circa 1989).

Although I'm less than 1/8 Polish, for the true Old World Wednesday experience you have to pretend like you're 100%, embracing every minute of the night from your first O.K. Beer to the final Polka song.  I repeat: YOU MUST ORDER AN O.K. BEER.  Okocim is a Polish beer, light and refreshing, and probably the best $4 you could spend on a Wednesday night.  Don't let the 16 oz. can deceive you, it's a very good European beer.  Besides, you don't drink it out of the can, you use the miniature 6 oz. glass it's served with!

Though I initially came to Old World Wednesday for the music and beer, I ordered food for the first time this week.  All I can say is that I regret not ordering it sooner!  Mimicking the decor and atmosphere of Prosperity Social Club, everything is done old-school, which means every part of your meal is made from scratch.  I was severely mocked by my friends for not getting pierogies, kielbasa, or stuffed cabbage, which are Old World Wednesday specials.  Instead, I ordered a Mediterranean chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries, which are fresh cut for each order; it was absolutely delicious!

Friends, food, music, and beer.  I couldn't think of a better way to spend any night of the week.  Speaking from experience, once you go to one Old World Wednesday, you can't stop.  I'm officially a regular, and hope you all have the pleasure of becoming one too!
